Editor's Comment: Company Serjeant Major 304320 Herbert G. Searle, 1/5th (London Rifle Brigade) Bn. London Regiment, was killed in action 16th August 1917 and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. He earlier served as a corporal in the 2/7th Bn. Middlesex Regiment (service no. 3355). The 1/5th Bn. London Regiment, as part of the 56th (London) Division, was taking part in the Battle of Langemarck, the second phase of the Third Battle of Ypres.
