A diary kept by Grattan Atkins from 1st January 1915 to 10th September 1915 (when he was shot, with a few subsequent pages on his hospitalization), is also kept by the family.
Editor's Comment: Letters to mother and father, sent between 15th March 1915 and 3rd August 1915, also page from diary.
Pte. 2301 John C. Grattan Atkins, 1/23rd Bn. (County of London) Bn., Territorial Force (London Regiment), served for a time in the battalion's Trench Mortar (Reserve) Battery. The 1/23rd Bn. was part of the 47th (London) Division, joining on 11th May 1915.
