My Grandfather, Francis Samuel Buckby, is 2nd from the left in this photograph. He was a member of the 1st Volunteer Battalion, The Leicestershire Regiment (The Tigers) from 1902, and fought in WW1, including surviving the Battle of the Somme. It is difficult to date this photograph, which is in postcard format, but apparently PH Adams, the photographer, produced such postcards from 1912 - 15. The scene would have been quite striking as the dress uniform that they are wearing apparently had red jackets and black trousers, although I am not convinced that they were wearing the correct belts. Although the photograph may have been taken prior to WW1, it provides a view of the bell tents, and bedding rolls that WW1 soldiers would have used.
