John McCamley was 18 years old when he died of wounds on 15 October 1918 - just three weeks before the Armistice. He was underage when he joined the Cameronians; official records of his gravestone show his age as 19, which was later amended by hand to 18.

The son of John and Bridget McCamley of Cowcaddens, Glasgow, John McCamley is buried in Voormezeele Enclosure No. 3 in Belgium.
