The story is about my wife's grandfather and great uncle. Grandfather is Private Alexander Fraser Leeds who was in the Gordon Highlanders; number 3/5122. He was born in Aberdeen on 14/06/1887 to Charlotte Crawford and John Leeds. One of his brothers was David Steele Leeds. His daughter Grace Leeds was born in 1918. He married Mary Duncan Patterson in 1919. They had several children. He died in Kingseat Hospital, Newmachar on 25/03/1926. The death was not war related.

Great Uncle is Driver David Steele Leeds. He was in the Royal Field Artillery; number L/7089. He was born in Aberdeen on 04/09/1897 to Charlotte Crawford and John Leeds. However, the birth certificate has his forenames as John Steele. This is believed to be a registrar's error. Certainly he was known as David. He married Margaret Henderson Stuart on 08/08/1917 at Aberdeen. They had several children. He died in Aberdeen on 30/03/1952. The death was not war related. The death certificate indicates he was John Steele Leeds, known as David.

No details of their service records have been found.
