4600: Sergeant Reginald George Tate

Reginald Tate was born at Upton Park, Essex on 21st June 1897, the son of Richard Frederick and Katherine Sarah Tate. He did well at school and matriculated. He also participated in activities at his local church, St Michael's, in Wood Green, London including participating in Gilbert and Sullivan operas.

Reginald enlisted in the army at the same time as his older brother Frederick and was posted as a Private in the 12th Territorial Battalion London Regiment. He went to France on 9th March 1915. Reginald was promoted to Sergeant and recommended for a Commission before he was sadly killed in action aged 19 on 9th April 1917 during the battle of Arras. According to a letter from the Battalion Chaplain, who buried Reginald, he was killed instantly by a machine gun bullet through the body.

Reginald Tate is buried in London Cemetery, Neuville-Vitasse, France and commemorated on Wood Green Memorial, London.
