4528: Stone Crucifix

online resource
posted on 2024-01-17, 15:04 authored by Lest We Forget Project Team

Stone crucifix probably made in the trenches in Gallipoli, December 1915. It is artistically drawn on a rough piece of sandstone.

The cross is marked "Suvla", reverse: "Suvla Bay, Lone Tree Gully. Sapper A.M. Dilbeck? R.E. Dec 1915" - Alan and I have never seen anything like this. The name is only distinguishable as "- - lbeck".
