4405: Pte Percy Birch (Silver War Badge and certificate, letter, poem, prayer)

Percy Birch lived at 25, Manor Road in Stourport-on-Severn on the outbreak of the First World War.

He joined the 1/7th Battalion of the Worcestershire Regiment and saw action at the Battle of the Somme in 1916, and later at the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917 where he was wounded and honourably discharged from the Army in March 1918.

He was awarded a Silver War Badge and certificate along with the 1914/15 Star and British War and Victory medals.

The letter/poem/prayer was sent to Percy by his brother-in-law, a priest living in Wales.
