online resource

Wilfred Mallinson (b. 1898) served in KOYLIs - in the 1st then the 8th Battalion. He fought on the Somme (in the same area as the Canadians) where he was gassed in the trenches. He spent his 20th birthday in Liverpool Hospital after being wounded at Le Sars.

Wilfred encouraged his wife to buy issues of 'The Bystander' to help her understand what life was like in the trenches. The magazines contain cartoons to get things past the censors.
