Stanley served with the West Riding Regiment and survived the war. It is thought that Stanley was in the training battalion. George died at Passchendale on the 06/10/1917. He served with the 1st/5th Duke of Wellington West Riding Regiment and is remembered on CWGC's Tyne Cot Memorial. He had been awarded the Military Medal in 1916. The photo was taken the week before George was killed.
