Pte John Veitch, 8th Btn. Royal Scots, 7342 Regt, H Coy, Peebles. John features in both photographs; one with his wife, the other one with an unknown Sergeant.

John Veitch served throughout the war, survived after Festaubert, Somme, Neuve Chapelle, 1916 & 18; 3rd Ypres, Arras, 1918 offensive, the Last 100 Days. He was attached to pioneers in summer 1915 and was fighting infantry again in 1918.

After the war, John joined Lothian & Borders Constabulary, and was still serving as a P.C. in the Second World War. The attached photos were found in an Edinburgh second-hand shop.
