About the picture(s)
This was Broad Street about a week before the lockdown began. Everything felt uncertain and unreal. I'd been concentrating on my thesis for most of the term, and hadn't really been paying much attention to the news. The day I submitted it, we started getting emails about perhaps not coming back for Trinity- it felt like everything was happening very fast. I took this photo on the way to catch a train home for the week. The thought that I might be unknowingly leaving Oxford as I knew it for the last time made the city seem even more beautiful than usual. I read a poem "Swinburne's 'The Triumph of Time'" on the train home, and I keep coming back to the line "the rain has ruined the ungrown corn".
