32285: No School Fetes

online resource
posted on 2023-12-08, 21:03 authored by Lockdown2020 and Beyond Project

School funding has been slashed over the past ten years, there is no money to repair the buildings, have enough teachers, buy books, etc - so parents often have to fund this. Schools now heavily rely on things like bazaars, fetes, cake sales, or just donations through things like easyfundraising. But CoVID has put paid to any gatherings so this has hit annual charitable income.

History

About the picture(s)

New Hinksey Primary School came up with an idea to replace its fete. Families have built statues of wild animals (or painted pictures) and put them in their window or front garden. So on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th you can walk around this 'safari' - all at a safe distance, and meet friends on the way. About 40 houses in the area took part and over £1,000 was raised for the school.
