31820: Abandoned Oxford

online resource
posted on 2023-12-08, 14:18 authored by Lockdown2020 and Beyond Project

A cycle ride is often the way I choose to take my daily exercise and the centre of Oxford has taken on an air of tranquillity and desertion. The lack of cars, students and tourists makes it nearly unrecognisable in comparison with my pre-lockdown daily commute, also on bike. Improved air quality is noticeable and I have found the tow paths and parks now busier so bizarrely a trip into town brings me into contact with fewer people.

About the picture(s)

The views of High Street, Radcliffe Camera, Broad Street, Magdalen Bridge and Catte Street show an absence of traffic and people, an illustration of the premature departure of our students, the absence of tourists, the ceasing of retail activities and evidence of people following the government's advice and doing the right thing, staying at home.
