About the picture(s)

A video of me, Peter Robinson on my bike riding around the city centre on Sunday 5th April at 5pm. This was the 2nd weekend of lockdown. Boris Johnson had just been rushed into hospital heading to intensive care. Empty streets but unusually hot for the time of year. April was the hottest month on record. Listen to me panting on my bike, the bike lock banging, the voices of the odd person on the street, no cars, nobody about apart from people taking exercise. The sound is the most unique thing, there is no traffic noise at all. You can hear people chatting from far across the street. A lone bus with no-one on travels down St Giles. The only shop open in the main Cornmarket street is Boots and there is a security guard on the door. I am trying to document this odd time for prosperity on my bike, but watch as I manage to crash in Broad St, wobble in Cornmarket, and get cocky taking over the road in St Giles' on a completely empty street. But it is the sound that is remarkable, the busiest tourist streets on a warm spring day and you can hear a pin drop.
