online resource
posted on 2024-01-18, 16:32 authored by Lest We Forget Project Team

Joseph was part of the 2nd/5th Battalion. Duke of Wellington's (West Riding) Regiment.

On 3rd May 1917, at the 2nd Battle of Bullecourt, Joseph went over the top at first light. He was killed instantly.

His great nephew visited the battlefield many years later. He had talked to survivors of the battle and had worked out almost exactly where his uncle would have been killed. He found a fuse cap of an exploded shell in that place.
