This collection of items relate to Jack Hughes' service in the RFC/RAF. He was not related to Malcolm Hill, but they knew each other because they both lived in Bruford Rd, Penn Fields, Wolverhampton. Jack was a carpenter before enlisting - a vital job in early aircraft maintenance.

He eventually became an air-gunner. Nothing is known about Jack's wartime career. However, the rolled map indicates he may have been engaged in flying regularly between the UK and Versailles. This may have been as a mail delivery pilot between London and Paris. After the war Jack worked at the Wolverhampton Express and Star newspaper.
