Tom Thorpe was a driver and lived in Ilkley. He was in 245 battery 4th West Yorks which became 245 brigade in 1915/16. He served throughout the war: April 1915 - 1919. The battery had few casualties in the war possibly because they were further from the frontline. He came home for Christmas in 1918/19 and camped at Folkestone. In Jan 1919 they protested about having to go back to France and eventually they were sent home.
