Herbert Haywood (grandfather of Dr. Mike Wise) was a footman in the 17th Lord Derby in Liverpool and survived the war only to be invalided out with Spanish Flu in 1918, an epidemic that killed 50 million people. He became a trolley bus driver for the Derby Corporation until he retired. He died in 1964 at age 72. He was awarded the French Medal of Honour in silver, but he never spoke of it.
