Pte Patrick Toohey 7529, 15th Bn. East Lancashire Regiment was a professional soldier who saw action in the Boer War. Of Irish extraction, he lived in Rochdale and was the cousin of my great grandfather. He was also greatly admired by my grandfather, John (Jack) Ford. See separate entry. He told my grandfather, "they haven't made the bullet that will kill me Jack!" Patrick was reported missing on the 14th May 1915, aged 45. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate in Ypres.
