Charles Owen was born 17 February 1896 at Oakley. His father, uncle and other relatives were also named Charles so he possibly chose to use his middle name to distinguish himself from the others. He attended Thame Grammar School where he was quite a good sportsperson. He served in the Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. 2nd/4th Battalion. He was wounded and repatriated to England. As soon as he was discharged he returned to the front where he was captured by the Germans in 1918. He died of ill treatment at the hands of the Germans. He was buried at Avesness Sur Helpe France. He is named on the honour Roll of his old school.
