Able Seaman John Henry William Brown, RN, was the contributor's grandfather.

He had a full career with the Royal Navy from 1912 to 1936 and went on to serve in the Royal Marines Police.

John's Service Certificate indicates he served aboard HMS King George V, a dreadnought battleship from November 1913 to April 1915,
