Joseph Leach was a member of the Merchant Navy before and during WW1. He wrote a book called 'Aye, Aye Sir' under the name of Clinker Knocker which records his life story. One passage in the book refers to his youngest brother Private Frank Leach of the West Yorkshire Regiment. Their father was with Frank in France when Frank was wounded and gassed at Le Treport. Frank died on 07.07.1917 and is in the care of CWGC at Mont Huon Military Cemetery. The inscription on his headstone reads, 'He answered duty's call'. An older brother Ralph served in the Navy and survived the war. The Leach brothers are the Great Uncles of the contributor.

Private Edward Wood served with the East Yorkshire Regiment. He died aged 24 on 15/09/1915. He is buried at CWGC's Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery in Belgium. The inscription on his headstone reads 'Ever remembered by his loving wife and children Daisy and Violet'. Edward Wood is the grandfather of the contributor's wife.
