Boredom did almost as much to sap morale in the trenches as the enemy on the other side of no-man's land. Football was one of the activities which kept men occupied in rest areas. These medals were given for inter-battalion and inter-regiment competitions and were sold on e-Bay. The most significant in the collection is named to Captain Harry Hamilton Dempsey who survived WW1. In WW2 he was in command of Operation Jantzen, the practice-run for D-Day.
