<p dir="ltr">Ernest James Frude fought with the 1/4th Hampshire Regiment in Mesopotamia from 1914. He was injured in the knee, and was sent to recuperate in England and Ireland while the Hampshires went to India. He was then assigned to the 1st Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry. He was sent to the Western Front, where he was eventually killed by an explosive shell on the 14th April 1918 near Ploegsteert in Belgium. He has no known grave and is remembered on the Memorial to the Missing in Ploegsteert, Basingstoke War Memorial Park and in St Michael's Church, Basingstoke.</p>
