Canon Lummis researched the Victoria Cross and George Cross winners of the Great War extensively, compiling a scrapbook of their photographs (at the time and more recently) and signatures. He also wrote about them in the press and corresponded with several of them to get details about their service, as can be seen from the letters preserved in the scrapbook. He also collected material related to aerial actions against Zeppelins.
