Thomas Blanden, born 1887, was Barry’s grandfather. He joined the Royal Navy in 1905 and served during both First and Second World Wars.

Thomas served aboard the Queen Elizabeth class Battleship HMS Barham (dates not known).

Thomas’s personal diary describes his journey on the battlecruiser HMS Invincible to the Falklands in 1914.

Medals: Long Service/Good conduct medal, 1914-1918 Campaign medal and “Peace Medal” 1914-1918/Allied Victory medal.
