Walter was a Yorkshireman who lived in Doncaster, which is where he signed up on November 10th 1914 at 19 years old. He survived the war.

The photo of the family shows two of his brothers who both fought in the war and survived, together with his sister, mother and father.

He suffered severe deafness after the war as well as serious stomach issues. He was not actually wounded but these problems originated from his wartime experiences.

He was discharged in 1919 and was married in 1924. He worked before the war in W.H. Smiths in Doncaster railway station and he received two war medals.
