Maitland mentions meeting at Barnett Assembly. She encourages Charlotte West to read James Hervey's 'Meditations on a flower garden', which is believed to be a reference to 'Reflections on a flower-garden' in James Hervey's 'Meditations and Contemplations' (17467; rev. edn., 1748). Maitland mentions also a hurricane which caused a woman and man to suffer physical ailments; comments on the hostilities occurring between the Times and the Argus newspapers. Lastly, she mentions a recipe for ginger wine, which she recommends as a summer drink. [Eileen Jakeway and Peri Sipahi] Transcribed by students on the Bodleian Student Editions programme.
