William Robson Dixon was the father of Joe Dixon and, although he survived the war, he was injured and gassed amongst other problems. At one stage he was wounded near St Quentin and lay in a shell hole for at least 24 hours before being rescued. He had numerous operations and was discharged from the army in August 1918 with a small pension.
