John Dixon was the uncle of Joe Dixon of Menston. He was born at High Spen, Co. Durham. He joined the Durham Light Infantry in 1918 and was awarded the Military Medal and two wound stripes. Although he had been badly injured he was photographed showing him as goalkeeper in the victorious 5th Reserve Battalion Durham Light Infantry winning the Humber Garrison Association Football Challenge Cup.
