1743: John Henry Fitch (medals; photographs)

John Henry Fitch was Yvonne Sheath's stepmother's father. He was born in1887 in the Walthamstow area of Essex. John enrolled with the 2nd Essex Regiment and at some point was transferred to the 10th Battalion of the Essex Regiment. He was married to Violet Ethel Fitch and his daughter Phyllis was born on 9th January 1917.

John was killed in action on the 22nd October 1917 aged 30 during the Battle of Passchendaele. He has no known grave and is therefore commemorated by name on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium. Yvonne is in possession of the 'Dead Man's Penny' awarded to all who fell in the First World War.
