1662: Joseph Borkett (photograph; ancestry data)

<p dir="ltr">Joseph came from Peckham and worked in a sawmill. His grandfather was a (horse-drawn) fireman, and (horse-drawn) carter. </p><p dir="ltr">Joseph was a horseman, though it's not known what sort, but he served with the 17th Lancers. </p><p dir="ltr">He died when with the Royal West Kent, attached to the 7th Bn Royal Dublin Fusiliers. But Ancestry.com states his theatre of war was Antwerp, so there is a discrepancy here. </p><p dir="ltr">The family story is that he was shot in the back while on horseback.</p>
