Peter Marwood Notley is the maternal Grandson of Ernest Alfred Vaughan. His family owned a glove factory in Torrington, and he was the treasurer of the Culmstock Otterhounds.

Ernest had served in India, as he was over 50 years old, he volunteered in the Devon Territorials until 1922. At the start of his service he was a Private but by the end of his service he was then a Major.

Peter was contacted by someone through Ancestry.com via a friend who had an account with Ancestry. Back in 1970 somewhere in Ilminster, Chard, a digger driver dug up a medal. Recently this digger family's' niece put a message on Ancestry.com asking for the family of the medal owner to contact them as they wished to return it to the family. A friend of Peters' saw it on Ancestry and a reunion was organised in March 2019 when the medal was returned.

Ernest loved India and took many photos of the time he was there, lots of black & white photos of places of interest etc were in the photo album which Peter brought in to be photographed. In the group photo Ernest is 4th from the left and there is another photo of Ernest "The Officer Commanding". Other artefacts were letters he wrote to his sister, his payslip and war cuttings and of cause the above-mentioned medal.

Ernest died in 1949.
