12256: Frederick Augustus Abberley

Frederick was Eleanor's grandfather. Frederick was born in Chelsea, London in 13th October 1886 to George & Elizabeth Abberley a Labourer.

In 1911 he was an Assistant in a Green Grocers and was living with the family. He married in 1915 and had 2 children, the youngest was a boy named after him and was born after Frederick's death but he died as an infant.

Frederick was a Private in the 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade regiment number S/25639 and was killed in action 23rd October 1916 and was awarded the British War medal and the Victory medal.

He is buried at the Thiepval cemetery.

Eleanor brought in to be digitised a photograph of the headstone, his medal and a printed story and books on the Somme.
