In this letter, Charlotte Maitland talks of her illness and thanks Charlotte West a present she sent her. She discusses the situation in that dreadful Ireland', where Charlotte West is currently residing, and the French landing there, expressing confidence that the British army will repel them effectively. She also mentions a visit of her husband ('the General') to the West household and also a letter from her son August at the front, relieved that all is well with him.
