Alfred Herbert Roby, born in February 1873 in Knowsley, Lancashire, served with the 11th Battalion of the Somerset Light Infantry late on in the First World War from May 1918 until March 1919.

Having originally enlisted in September, 1915, he was primarily employed as a stretcher bearer with the 11th Somerset Light Infantry and was awarded the Military Medal in March 1919 for his service in this role.
