10297: Boer War Magic Lantern Slides

A box of lantern slides, some mass produced (coloured), the majority black and white negative style in glass slides. The pictures include naval ships, German dugout and African Natives.

Engineer Lt. William Edwin Hill Turner born 1870, and was a Torpoint Councillor.

William served in the Royal Navy in South Africa in The Boer War. People ask "what was the Navy doing in Africa?"

The slides would have been shown using a lantern slide projector; some of the slides have captions.

The slides have not been viewed for 60 years but they did used to be shown by Frank Edwin Reburn in the Y.M.C.A in Devonport, to 100+ deprived boys, to help keep them entertained.
