Narrow ridge between the Eligias and Samaria Gorges. This very rugged terrain results from the weathering properties of platey limestone, which does not karstify. At this altitude (1700 m) the trees are small, ancient, gnarled cypresses, in centre, and Cretan maples (Acer sempervirens ), left of centre. July 1989.
