Limestone mountains east of the Askyphou Plain, 1200-1400 m. This limestone weathers into innumerable karst funnels, which contain most of the vegetation. The apparently barren landscape is used for sheep pasture in much the same way as the Madhares of west Sphakia. Looking E. August 1989.
