Frangokastello plain (Region 8). In the foreground is the characteristic phrygana vegetation, composed of many kinds of undershrubs. Most of it has been cultivated at various times in the past. Cultivation had retreated to the deeper soils at the base of the mountains, until EU subsidies for irrigation. The villages of Patsianos and Kapsodhasos stand on the fan of erosion material which has come out of the Kallikrati Gorge. Looking N. July 1988.
