Askyphou Plain (7.14), the biggest area of flat land in Sphakia. The hamlets are just off the edges of the plain; at 680 m, people stay here all the year. This is the only large area of cereal cultivation remaining in Sphakia. Surrounding mountains are wooded with cypress and prickly-oak. Looking SW. January 1988.
