St Hilda's Church, Ellerburn, North Yorkshire

St Hilda's Church is located in the village of Ellerburn in Rydale, North Yorkshire. The history of the church dates back to the Anglo-Saxon period. Built into the fabric of the present church are over thirteen early sculptural and architectural fragments, some dated from c. 850-950, though some are likely to be earlier. One cross fragment built into the wall by the porch is a Danish style cross. The present church building is constructed similarly to the church at St Gregory's Minster in Kirkdale which was rebuilt c. 1050. The height of the nave may indicate that the building is pre-Norman.
