This is an illustration of Anglo-Saxon Leicester from the south. It is set in the early Anglo-Saxon period when existing roman buildings are utilised as improvised shelters as well as new build cottages. the surrounding scrub and forest is being cleared in patches for both timber and crops. The existing street pattern starts to emerge as paths are made through the ruins.
