Thomas Kerry Reddin
Actor, surgeon and brother of District Judge Kenneth Sheils Reddin (the novelist "˜Kenneth Sarr'), whom JJ met in Paris. Thomas Kerry Reddin was educated, like JJ, at Clongowes Wood and Belvedere College, before qualifying as a veterinary surgeon and later as a surgeon. An active nationalist and Irish Volunteer, he was deported and interned after the 1916 Easter Rising. A mainstay of the Hardwicke Street Irish Theatre from 1915 onwards, he also acted in the Gate Theatre's inaugural production (Peer Gynt at the Peacock) and, as Kerry Ronan, at the Abbey. In 1927 he was appointed Assistant Medical Officer for Health in Dublin, specialising in child and maternity welfare. In the same year, he married Evelyn Egan. In the 1951 general election he stood unsuccessfully as Fine Gael candidate for Dublin South Central. John Simpson
