Unknown but perhaps Charlotte Rothstein Ross, a painter on the Chicago project whose work is now in the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC. A penciled note on the top left of the letter to Ross reads "From James Joyce / Sam". Born Charlotte Bergman in Chicago in 1912, she married her second husband Sam Ross, a screenwriter and novelist who was a member of the Illinois Writers' Project. Ronan Crowley
