Ford Madox Ford

Writer and editor. Especially with his best known novel, The Good Soldier (1915), Ford made an important contribution to literary Modernism. He met Joyce for the first time thanks to Ezra Pound, who organized a personal meeting in late November 1922 (see Joyce's letter to Harriet Shaw Weaver of 25 November 1922; LIII 69). In 1924, Ford founded the transatlantic review, whose April 1924 issue contained the first pre-book publication of Finnegans Wake (the MaMaLuJo episode) under the title "From Work in Progress". After that, "Work in Progress" was to remain the working title of what eventually became Finnegans Wake. Dirk Van Hulle and William Brockman
