David Fleischman

Son of JJ's daughter-in-law Helen (née Kastor) by her first marriage to publisher Leon Samuel Fleischman. David Fleischman was born in New York and was educated at Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts from 1934 before studying for a year at Harvard (1940-1), specialising in Literature and History and active in student politics. In 1942 he married Dorothy Rachel Myers, moved to Newton, Massachusetts, and enlisted in the US Army, serving as a Staff Sergeant in France. He subsequently trained as an accountant in Newton and continued there as a CPA until his death in 1967, aged forty-eight. John Simpson
