Claire Gorman

Pianist and second wife of JJ's biographer, Herbert Sherman Gorman. Claire Ottonie Schneider was born in New York, daughter of German immigrant Dr. Louis Schneider. She attended the Penn Hall Conservatory, and her love of music took her to France where she met her first husband, Director of the Princeton Conservatory (later composer of the US Air Force song) Robert MacArthur Crawford. They married in 1926 and divorced four years later. In 1932 she married Gorman and, through her husband, met JJ while visiting Paris. The Gormans lived in upstate New York, where Claire was a piano-teacher and concert pianist. John Simpson
