Armand-Marcel Petitjean

Critic, novelist, editor, and businessman. In the 1930s Petitjean became affiliated with La Nouvelle revue française, and at the same time became fascinated with JJ, publishing three significant articles and a short translation in the mid-1930s. With a position in the Vichy government, he was instrumental in assisting the Joyce family to cross the border into Switzerland in December 1940. During the 1940s, his writing became increasingly political, and by the 1950s Petitjean had largely left the world of literature. In 1961 he assumed management of the Lancôme perfume company, which his father had founded in 1935. William Brockman
